Missed yet another day of work today, to take The Boy to the doctor. It's strep. Again, or still; I don't know which and at this point don't care as long as they can get rid of it. I got tested to make sure I'm not still carrying it, and I was all clear. The Boy held my hand while they swabbed my throat and told me afterwards that I was very brave.

This afternoon I tackled the shrubbery by the driveway. I'm not sure what it is; some leggy leafy evergreen that looks a lot like logustrum but isn't. Every year I cut it back to make it fuller, and every year I tell myself afterwards that I should have cut it back more. So this year I was merciless. My vorpal blade went snicker-snack for the better part of an hour, with branches and leaves piling up on the sidewalk in my wake.

It looks absolutely terrible. If a hedge could have mange, this is what it would look like. But I know it's only temporary, and if not this year then the next it will finally take shape. As I get older, I am learning to take a longer view.

You totally cracked me up! I love your sense of humor!

Hope "the boy" feels better soon. Strep sucks but seems to be going around. 'tis the season...

Thanks for the get-well vibes. He's now on day four of Zithromax but still running a fever every night. So we'll see how the weekend goes.

Hey! If you can e-mail me a pic of said bush, I might be able to identify it from my mighty book of every plant, shrub, and tree known to man! It's a massive gardener's book; and I'm not kidding! Bet I could find it in there!

Sometiems with those things it's better to cut away too much early in the season. I don't know if it's good for the shrubbery, but sure makes trimming easier because all the heavy stuff is gone. Now you just have to control the summer growth.

Yeah, I should have cut it about a month ago, before it started leafing out. Control summer growth, huh? That sounds like it involves more hacking.

Oh, Frabjous Day...

My mind went off in several different directions with this, all of them awful, so of course I feel compelled to share:

(1) Edward Scissorhands, doing Spin the Moon's...uh..."yard". (cough...)

(2) Spin the Moon is doing a crossover with "Highlander"?

(3) Saturday Night Live: "Samurai Landscaper! Hai-YA!"

(4) Mel Brooks: "History of the World, Part One."

"Is that considerate?"
"Is that polite?"
"And not a single frumious bandersnatch in sight!"

Oops, sorry, meant to say "armadillo" instead.

still snickering
