Here it is Thanksgiving, and I have a confession to make. The whole concept of Thanksgiving kinda annoys me. It's a wonderful thing to give thanks, but there's something unsettling about the idea that we have to mark our calendars to make sure we remember to do it. No one ever comes out and says it, but I always imagine people quietly ticking off "Be Thankful" from their to-do list and breathing a collective sigh of relief that particular chore won't roll around for another year.
I'm thankful every day, for so many things. For my family, for my friends, for my home, for a body that mostly works and a mind alert enough to let me be thankful for those things.
On Thanksgiving? I'm mostly thankful that I get to enjoy a nice dinner with extended family without having to figure out how to fit all 30-some-odd of them into my house.
