The Haze of Autumn [Oct. 12th, 2004|04:39 am]

OK, so many people, when they read or heard about my ongoing house issues, recommended that I burn sage that I decided to give it a try. I wasn't sure exactly what kind to use, so it took me a while to get the project under way. Should I just grab a jar off my spice rack? Should it be fresh or dried? Since I live in Texas, should I use Texas Sage?

In the end, I bought a fresh bunch at HEB and hung it in the kitchen window to dry. I figure HEB is a friendly place, so their sage should be friendly too, right? This weekend I decided it was dry enough, and contrived to set the stuff alight. Which turned out to be trickier than anticipated. After several false starts and one much too successful attempt, I managed to assemble a small dish of nicely smouldering sprigs. With the end result being I set off the smoke alarm, have a terrific allergy headache, and the house smells like we held a Greatful Dead concert in the living room.

Now, I just have to wait to see if it worked, or if the house is going to retaliate.

What kind of friends are these that tell you to burn stuff in your house?

If I made a list of suggestions, could I get you to do them, too? This could be fun.

White Sage

I know what you are trying to do. It is a cleansing. They probably meant for you to get White Sage, which is used by Native Americans for smudging. Smudging is the same as cleansing.

What you have done will probably work, but I would recommend that you hit an herbal shop or occult shop and get a white sage bundle. It is already dried and wrapped. You light it and it burns like incense. It smells much better than Texas Sage, which is what you get at HEB. If you email me, I can tell you a great location where you can get some, or I can pick you up some from my camping event this weekend. There will be vendors there, that I am positive will be selling some.

Re: White Sage

I couldn't agree more with this. And the Ren Fests that have started up in the last few weeks have all sorts of spiritual supplies for cleansing and clearing, not to mention all manner and means of advice on and about the aforementioned snaggle.
