|The Haze of Autumn

OK, so many people, when they read or heard about my ongoing house issues, recommended that I burn sage that I decided to give it a try. I wasn't sure exactly what kind to use, so it took me a while to get the project under way. Should I just grab a jar off my spice rack? Should it be fresh or dried? Since I live in Texas, should I use Texas Sage?
In the end, I bought a fresh bunch at HEB and hung it in the kitchen window to dry. I figure HEB is a friendly place, so their sage should be friendly too, right? This weekend I decided it was dry enough, and contrived to set the stuff alight. Which turned out to be trickier than anticipated. After several false starts and one much too successful attempt, I managed to assemble a small dish of nicely smouldering sprigs. With the end result being I set off the smoke alarm, have a terrific allergy headache, and the house smells like we held a Greatful Dead concert in the living room.
Now, I just have to wait to see if it worked, or if the house is going to retaliate.
