Suit up! [Aug. 7th, 2008|10:35 pm]

I hate wearing bathing suits. And trying them on is almost, but not quite as bad as wearing them. When I'm trying them on I can convince myself that I don't look all that bad, but in the end I'm never really happy with them. Which is why I have taken to buying bathing suits from Sam's, without trying them on. I figure, Why bother? I'm just going to hate them anyway.

I say this like I buy bathing suits all the time, which I don't. I bought a bathing suit at Sam's a few years ago. It was a purple Nike racing style one piece. It was great for the beach because it kept everything covered and didn't ride up or slip down. But three years of looking like Barney started to wear on me, so this year when I spied another conservative-looking one-piece at Sam's, I picked it up in navy and happily packed it to take to Sea World.

Remember how I said it was a conservative-looking suit? Looks can be deceiving, even about looks. The top was a little more low cut than it looked on the hanger. But it was still a MomSuit and seemed suitable (no pun intended) for spending a day at the waterpark with the kids.

And then we hit the wave pool.

Now, I've never been what you might call well endowed. And while my feminine charms haven't expanded over the years, they have developed a tendency to stray. It wasn't long before I was in danger of turning the wave pool into a family unfriendly venue. Turns out the straps on my suit stretched considerably, and just wouldn't stay put. Luckily, Middle Daughter came to my rescue with some clever knotting of an extra ponytail holder, and the day was saved.

Next year? I think I might try trying on a suit before I buy it.

I think bathing suit dressing rooms should have hot tubs. And cabana boys!

Nah, just order online. I don't even go to an actual brick & mortar store. landsend.com and I are great friends!

I bought a suit at landsend last year and love the way it looks, but it's a halter top and I can only wear it for short periods of time before it makes my back hurt. Sigh. It's really cute, too.

Wait a sec...I thought your bathing suit was beige and brown and rust. Is this one the peekaboo suit? If so, it's cute.

Just don't go flailing around in the water!

Btw, I second the motion on buying swimsuits online. This is what I do though I tend to underestimate the size of my butt.
