I'm thinking obsessive [Mar. 17th, 2007|08:41 am]

The Boy cracks me up. He is still churning out books by the dozens, but the trip to Moody Gardens earlier this week gave him the idea that we should have our own personal IMAX theater. He spent hours last night explaining to me exactly how we would accomplish this. Me telling him that we could not nail a sheet to the wall to make a screen was only a minor setback.

He planned four movies - something about an underground adventure, one about sharks, one I never did quite grasp but had something to do with what looked like a buzzsaw, and "Sponge Bob vs. the Cyclops" - a rollicking tale, I'm sure.

Ever the worrier, he drew up detailed plans for construction, lest we leave anything out. I told him this was a long-term project, but he seemed to think we could throw it together in a couple of hours, even though we don't have a projector or any film.

The drawings were in pencil, so they didn't scan very well, but I just had to share. I've labeled everything since you don't have the advantage of listening to him explain exactly what everything is, how it works, why we need it, and how we will make it.

First, all the components:

Next, how they will all fit together:

So, what do you think? Movies at my place?

Well, popcorn was part of the original plan (that smudgy place next to the hole punch was a bag of popcorn that got erased) but he decided that since we don't have a soda machine to serve sodas to go with the popcorn, and you don't eat popcorn in an IMAX, that we didn't need it. But I'm sure we can make an exception!

I was kinda looking forward to "Sponge Bob vs. the Cyclops" myself. Of course, now we're going to have to spend the next two weeks figuring out how to make a projector...

Wow, what an impressive imagination! And I still can't get over how well he can draw!

As a side note, it reminds me of the "good old days" when my brother and I used to have movie night after checking out silent movies from the library. Before we got a projector screen, we would stretch a white sheet out on a wall just like that. ;-)

He's amazing. Just the way he drew the tacks for the sheet...I mean screen...you can see the detail...WOW!

I want to go! Wait. Do you think the boy will hire me? I want to be the person that slaps people upside the head when their cell phone rings during the movie.

I would love to tell you

how cute it is, but I can't. It's actually scary that he left NOTHING out. Every detail accounted for. Even the hole to punch the tickets? WOW. Amazing.

I'll be there, but be warned...I talk through the whole thing, and I like LOT's of butter on my popcorn. I probably won't be yapping your ear off though. I want a sit down with The Boy.

The boy's got an eye for business- tickets, punch for the tickets, drawer for the tickets, cash register.... very impressive!

The funny thing is, my boy went to IMAX at Moody Gardens over spring break and he came home wanting to buy an IMAX movie, not the entire theater. I guess we know who's the producer and who is the consumer!
