Whew [Oct. 15th, 2006|07:47 pm]

Where have I been? you ask? Why, thanks for asking. I've been busy. In an it-will-take-ten-aspirin-to-stop-hurting kind of way. But, with good results.

Yesterday was Pumpkin Patch. Pumpkin Patch is a smallish fall festival that benefits our local nature center. For some reason, my kids just think it is the greatest thing ever. They get to play typical festival type games, like bean bag and ring tosses and pluck a duck and fishing games, and the lawn is packed with pumpkins for the taking. Well, not the taking, but the buying.

This year we got three pumpkins - a tiny one, a medium-sized one, and a great big honking one. The Boy was beside himself. THREE pumpkins. A veritable embarrassment of riches, only he wasn't the least bit embarrassed.

Today, we went all While You Were Out in Middle Daughter's room. She was at her dad's this weekend, so I figured it would be a good time to redecorate her room. Yesterday, we went to Ikea and picked up a bed, mattress, and bookcase. Today, we put it all together, which turned out to be an all-day event. I will hand it to Ikea, though - the bed took us all of ten minutes to assemble, and the only reason the bookcase took so long was because I painted the back to match her dresser which I painted way back in the spring. But, I had to go buy her sheets since the new bed is a full size and her old one was a twin.

And of course I had to call my mom to come over and tell me how to arrange the bookcase, and where to hang the pictures, and all that stuff. We ended up getting it done just as Middle Daughter came up the front walk. I hope she likes it - it's hard to tell sometimes with her.

This is the headboard. The picture over the bed is a self-portrait she did in third grade. I think I am going to lower the bottom shelf over her nightstand a bit.

And this is the new bookcase. It's sitting catty-corner.

And this is her room, as viewed in her closet door mirrors. It was the only way I could get the bookcase and the dresser in the same pic.

That's really nice! :-)

Do you have any pictures of what it looked like before?

I wish I had taken "before" pics. The windows and dresser were the same - the nightstand, shelves, and pictures were moved. There was a LOT of decluttering involved.

Imagine this room with a twin bed, a corner desk, and what all that would look like if the laundry hamper, Toys R Us, and Office Max blew up at the same time.

Lovely! (and a question)

Very pretty! Where did you get the linens/quilt? I want something similar for my girls' room...

The quilt is I think from JC Penney, but we've had it for about 6 years now so I don't know if they still carry it.

It looks lovely! That bed is so pretty and the decorations are terrific, too. I love the quilt! Are you and your mom busy on Wednesday? Cassandra is making noise about having her room redone.

Can you adopt me? Just so I can have a room that pretty?

As long as you don't want new shades.

I think it's beautiful! The self portrait is a perfect object to use for the color scheme; the colors you chose compliment it just right.

Wow. How lovely. What a lucky kid. Keiki did a self-portrait just like that in 1st grade. Are the floors wood? I'd love to see them.
