Maybe I missed the point [Apr. 22nd, 2006|09:10 am]
spinthemoon

Yesterday morning I saw a news segment about a woman who, stuck in debt and feeling queasy about being such a slave to consumerism, vowed to go a year without buying anything other than bare necessities. She wrote a book about it, Not Buying It - My Year Without Shopping.

This story made such an impression on me that I went out yesterday afternoon and spent over $200 on new clothes.

It wasn't that I didn't agree with what they were saying - I just don't think it applies to my life these days. I mean, I actually debated for three months over whether to spend $12 on a new makeup brush. My old one was *20 years old*. So I don't think I fall into the "mindless consumerism" catagory.

Right, me either. We buy out of necessity most of the time. I would love to have the extra cash to just spend for the fun of it. It sickens me to see clips of celebrities shopping - they seem to do it so much and so outrageous and I bet most of those items they never use or gift out. Seriously you rich people, give to those who REALLY need it, there are starving children you know!!

I figure, what is the point of me working anyway? Isn't it so I can have money to buy things? Life is about so much more than the bare necessities.

I probably would have too. But the real question would be "did you put the blinds up yet?"

Misty ;O)
