So, this morning The Boy tells me he wants barbecue chips for breakfast.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is Best Mother in the Universe and 10 is And You Call Yourself a Mom, how bad is it that:

1) We actually have barbecue chips in the pantry

2) I let him have them

1!!!
Because you recognize that while eating a well balanced meal full of healthy foods, that sometimes a craving sets in and you just have to have something right now to be blissfully happy. You also see that in order to continue to have a wonderful day, it's best to satisfy with chips rather than have a tantruming toddler for the rest of the day. Way to anticipate his needs. And of course, the best mom's in the universe are not "perfect" and chips are ok. And I'll bet a million bucks, after being allowed chips for breakfast, he REALLY thinks you are the best mom in the universe!

I'll have to say "1" because I'm a boy, too.

You get a resounding, thundering applaused "1" from Jake.

Jake's reasoning is that there is no more damage from the fried aspect than if he'd eaten eggs or other breakfast meat, and potatoes aren't necessarily evil and the last part of his rationale is that the ONLY real vote that matters in the rating of a mom is the kid's.
