So, I'm flipping channels and I run across Commander in Chief, a new show about a determined woman in a position of power. So why does it irritate me so? Because I can't believe that as a nation we think the idea of a woman being President is so shocking that there could actually be a big network primetime show totally dedicated to the premise.

Look! It's a Woman! And she's lucked into being the President! Holy Cow! What will happen next?!?!?!?!?!

ITA. And it's so overdone. The big bad overly sexist badguys and the poor first husband who has to put up with being the 'first lady'. Give me a break.

When I was a kid, I saw a movie with Fred McMurray where he was the "first lady". The whole movie was about the "bad guys" trying to get the woman president out of office, and in the end she resigns because she gets pregnant. There's some line directed to him along the lines of "Congratulations! You managed to do single-handedly what the rest of us couldn't"

I like Geena Davis, and I like the idea of a woman president. I just get anoyed at the idea that a woman president is a problem because she's a woman.

That is why I like BSG. There is no problem with a woman Prez. The problem is that she is a school teacher...*giggle*

There are so many women who think that we have achieved equal status in the feminist movement, but we still make 60% less than men, there is still a glass ceiling, and the idea of a woman president still makes some people cringe (this includes men and vapid women). We make up more than 50% of the population and still do not have equal representation in any branch of government.

I'm of two minds. One, the premise, as you say, is sort of sad. But two, Geena Davis is so damn hot. As a lesbian I'm allowed to say that and not seem completely shallow, right? ;-) Typically, though, I only watch Arrested Development and Kitchen Confidential on Mondays, so who knows. Of course, Fox is stupid and will probably cancel these excellent comedies, so I may not have any free will in the matter.

Hell! I'm straight and think she's hot! As well as stunningly beautiful!

What will happen next? She'll have a hellish case of PMS and end up nuking us all into oblivion? I mean, that's always been the popular theory; that our hormones make us unsuitable for positions of responsibilty.

Yet, the onus of raising children is left mostly to us.
