Today it was announced that AstroWorld will be closing permanently at the end of the season. I am very sad. Working "casual pool" at AstroWorld was my first full-time job, the summer between my Jr. and Sr. high school years. I continued to work there every summer until I finished college.

There isn't space on LJ for me to write about all my experiences there, or what it meant to me. Sigh.

aww man! Maybe you can go talk to them and see if you can have something from the place to keep for sentimental value? HUGS!

I actually do have a couple of momentos...one is a "Marvel McFey" watch (MM was the mascot of AstroWorld before Six Flags bought it) and I also have a piece of film from the Horizons theater, where I was Foreman one summer. I would love to have a chunk of the Cyclone, where I worked for a couple of seasons, back when it was the #1 rated roller coaster in the world.

The Six Flags corporate office announced it yesterday. It was on Channels 2 and 11 and I believe the Chronicle has reported it as well.
