It's the end of the week, the end of the month, and I am too worn out to give this post any semblance of order.

I would have posted more this week, except I stole my stuff. Not once, not twice, but three times this week, I was thinking about posting something, and then someone on the message board I hang out on started a thread about the exact same thing. And so I posted there what I was going to post here, and it just seems lame to steal my own schtick, y'know?

***********************************

I have been working on The Project From Hell for months now, and last night it rolled into production. Well, part of it, anyway. And because it's The Project From Hell, I was expecting a very rough whitewater period. Whitewater is what we call the first few days after a new program goes in, when things are likely to be a little bumpy. Well, at least that's what I call it, and what I thought everyone called it, but since I left Shell I've never met anyone else who calls it that. In fact, I've never met anyone else who has a name for it at all, so maybe I'm the only one who ever has a bumpy period after new code goes in.

In any case, I was expecting a really rough whitewater, because we hit a lot of code and totally changed a bunch of business processes for three different operational groups, but it wasn't all that bad. Of course, we strategically rolled it out the Friday before a Monday holiday, when half the users have a 9/80 day anyway and the ones who aren't off are thinking about being off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things are still smooth on Tuesday, because frankly this project has worn me down something fierce.

The new functionality is way cool, though. I actually had someone applaud during a training session yesterday.

*************************************

The Boy made it through the first week of Kindergarten and still likes school. The second day he declared it "boring", the third day he complained that they only got to play "two minutes on the blacktop and three minutes on the field and that's not enough playing" but he did like music class, and yesterday he said they only had rest period for "one and a half minutes". I think he may be wrong about that one. But he likes his teacher very much and has declared school a good thing.

************************************

And now I need to stop because it's storming. Again. Rumble rumble crash.
