Toast is toast [Nov. 14th, 2006|07:21 am]

Sigh. Meet Toaster Oven, the latest casualty in the all my appliances are blowing up saga. To be fair, I inherited it used back in 1987, so it's not like I didn't get my money's worth out of it. But still.

It was working fine yesterday; today, when I tried to make my semi-usual cheese toast breakfast, I was met with some inappropriate dinging and buzzing. I jiggled the little lever, tried again, and noticed the dinging and buzzing was accompanied by some blue sparks. I tried the oven setting knob, which made the toast lever ding, buzz, and spark. So, out it went. Because I'm no mechanical wizard, but I'm pretty sure that buzzing and sparking and the smell of melted wires are not a good thing when speaking of electrical appliances. I learned that lesson from the microwave.

So now I'm faced with the part I hate - trying to find a new toaster oven. Because I loved my toaster oven. As in, loved. It was the perfect size - just big enough for a loaf pan or a muffin tin or a tray of cheese biscuits. And it didn't take up much room, because it was more functional than decorative. It seems all the toaster ovens now have a lot of excess external area. I'm sure there's a better way to say that, but you know what I mean. And if you don't, just smile and nod. I'm used to it.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I need to get one soon, because Toaster Oven is a necessary fixture around here.

I have an itty bitty toaster oven that fits a slice of pizza. My suggestion would be that I send you that. It's only been around since 1996 and not used all that much. Current location? Sitting on my counter collecting dust because I thought if I pulled it out, I would use it more often. Misty

No suggestions, haven't had a toaster oven in YEARS. Should get one though - but no space here either.

I agree, that sparking and smell, NOT a good thing!

Been looking for a good one myself. I've NEVER owned a toaster oven. I didn't realize how $$$ they can be. I have no counter space to spare so I've been hoping to find one that can be mounted under the cabinet. Here's a link that might be helpful to you. Let us know what kind you decide on. Gosh, 1987? What brand is it? I'd try to find one by the same manufacturer.
